General Conference October 2014 Packet

I updated my April 2013 version for the upcoming Conference.  I hope to make a new one completely for the April 2015 Conference. Until then, enjoy this updated version and Conference! (:

Jeopardy: April 2013 General Conference Edition

That's right - here is our Jeopardy: April 2013 General Conference Edition for our youth fireside this Sunday!

Thanks to Linda Harper's submission on Debra Wood's site Latter-day Village, I was able to pull some questions to help get the process moving quicker! I altered some and created others to work more towards our youth.

We'll only be doing one round of Jeopardy in hopes of discussing more on the lessons from the talks rather than blasting through for more points. We're allowing the youth to use their packets (see this post) with any notes they took from Conference. Fingers crossed the night is a success!

*If the songs do not work on the PPT, download these MP3s and reinsert them into the file:

General Conference 2013 Packets

What do you do to help get your youth excited about General Conference?

I know I'm a little ahead of the game, but due to personal schedules, it's necessary. And, as they say, "The early bird gets the worm." Am I right? (And, I just love General Conference!)

Anyway, when I was growing up we were able to earn make-up day(s) in seminary if we took really good notes on Conference. I grew up taking notes or playing BINGO or something of the sort - so this was easy peesy for me. Now, it's a habit. I can't imagine just sitting through Conference. I get so much more out of it by taking notes too! So thankful for a good mother (who was also my seminary teacher)!

For our youth, I created some packets. I had found some packets on SugarDoodle as well as The Red Headed Hostess, but I really wanted to include some things specifically for our youth. I wanted the girls to be able to learn from Conference and more about the leaders as well. In the end, I wanted them to act on Conference. Both Personal Progress and Duty to God incorporate Conference talks into the experiences. So why not remind them?

In addition, we're having a General Conference Jeopardy fireside later in April. I'll allow them to use their packets. It'll be YW vs. YM, which tends to motivate them even more! (:

Also, the YW will get to attend the YW Broadcast the week prior; I made a special mini packet for that. For the YM, I created a special Priesthood Session packet.

Hopefully this will encourage our youth to love every moment of Conference and gain as much as possible from it!

New Curriculum Challenges

With the New Curriculum, the YW are given a challenge each week at the end of the lesson to encourage them to act upon what they've learned. After a month, we found the girls weren't remembering the challenges.

Thanks to Sugar Doodle's list, which included this handout, I found a template to print on to post-its. I had heard of this before, but didn't want to dive in without some guidance. And I found some! Now, I'm creating post-its with the challenges for the girls each week to take home.

Here's one I created to go along with the lesson "What is the purpose of life?"

What do your Young Women think of the New Curriculum? We love it!

Valuing Our Personal Progress

Soon, we'll be having a Personal Progress Fireside. We're calling it "Valuing our Personal Progress." Nothing too crazy, huh? But, it gets to the point.

Personal Progress is such a blessing! We want our girls to be involved! We know the girls get the best support at home - especially from their moms. So, this will be a mother/daughter fireside.

Based on suggestions I have found online (like, here) and the needs of our girls, I created these handouts for our mothers:

Scriptures a Day

I am so excited about Virtue being added as a value! It had just been made a value as I was exiting Young Women's. A few months back, we had a month dedicated to this value. We really wanted to encourage the girls to start reading the Book of Mormon on their own for the Virtue project.

After seeing this idea on Pinterest to create a little love-a-day boxes, I altered it to work for our girls. On each note, there is a quote from a general authority with a coordinating verse(s) in the Book of Mormon. I would put small things of candies or stickers in with them as a little bonus.
